The United States Tennis Association is planning to stage this years US Open in front of the fans despite the COVID-19 outbreak.
The USTA said the fate of the tournament will not be decided until June, but it is "highly unlikely to be played behind closed doors."
The Tennis body has also set up a medical advisory group to help them determine whether it will be safe to play the tournament.
The association had previously indicated it may explore the possibility of pushing the games back into the autumn.
The US Open is currently scheduled for the 31st of August to the 31st of September at Flushing Meadows in New York. The event attracted nearly three quarters of a million people in 2019.
Meanwhile the French Open was postponed until September and Wimbledon, due to be played in June and July, has been cancelled.
